Millions of years ago a colossal explosion of earthly magnitude originated most of the volcanoes that make up the Cordillera Occidental, called Pacana by geologists, the sacred volcanoes that surround today the salt lagoon Lejía (some call it lake) as sentinels of the highlands: Láscar, Chilliques, Acamarachi and Aguas Calientes. A landscape of nature that extatate the visitor, also decorated by flocks of flamingos and occasional pine nuts of guanacos. The lagoon is at 4325 meters above sea level, it is small and shallow but intense emerald green that contrasts with the bright white of the snowy mountains. It has a very high concentration of salts that give it its color and that crystallize forming scabs on its banks. Continuing the journey, near the bordering Paso Sico, the salt flat and lagoon of Aguas Calientes displays all the spectacle of terrestrial colors and shapes in harmony with abundant highland fauna.
