This circuit brings together numerous attractions that make up the territory, culture and History of Atacameña. San Pedro de Atacama is the center of tourist activity and enjoys a well-deserved prestige abroad as a must-see when traveling to Chile. Its busy streets all year round prove it. The Valley of the Moon, Sanctuary of Nature, is the magic of the desert and a landscape that fascinates by its formations and colors. Very close to the village is the pucará de Quitor, a National Monument, which dates back to the 12th century and was reinforced during the Inca occupation making it resistant to siege by the Spanish invaders. Rio Grande, located in the fertile valley of the river of the same name, is a charming little village built in stone from which you reach Machuca, a typical Atacameño village 4000 m high whose Mirador offers the traveler a magnificent panoramic view of the Andes mountain range. The Sanctuary of Nature The geysers of El Tatio amaze the traveler because the natural force manifests itself there with singular splendor at dawn when dozens of jets of boiling water rise up to ten meters high creating a magnificent spectacle. Anyone who visits this place can’t forget it. And from here to Caspana (son of the native language hollow) exhibits the ancient stone architecture and is surrounded by crops from an organized community. The permanent fumaroles of the Aucanquilcha volcano, with more than 6000 m on its four summits, the ancient site of an Inca shrine, await the intrepid hiker. After so much effort and emotion it will be a well-deserved reward to arrive in Ollaguee (beautiful seen in Aymara), a friendly village of only 300 inhabitants bordering Bolivia.
