San Pedro de Atacama was the main center of Atacama or Likanantay culture, had a defensive fortress in Quitor since the twelfth century that resisted the onslating of the conquerors and still preserves numerous ayllus, vestiges of a community socioeconomic organization prior to the Incas. Currently this oasis of the desert is considered the Archaeological Capital of Chile and you can already check it out. But it’s not just history but the desert surprises us. The Valley of Death and the Valley of the Moon, Sanctuary of Nature, show in its extreme aridity the surprising beauty of its capricious natural formations. You’ll see it. Rio Grande and Machuca, two villages typically atacameños, and the unique flora and fauna, ñandúes, vizcachas, vicuñas and foxes, which lives in the 4000 m high. The Tatio Geysers, the largest geothermal field, managed by neighboring communities, shows all the impressive strength of 80 jets of boiling water that fill the site with bright vapors in the sun, but will not prevent you from taking a good swim in the nearby thermal wells. In pre-Hispanic Socaire the growing terraces almost hide the village, in contrast to the turquoise Salares of Talar and Kapur, where the aridity is bleak. Their diaphanous beauty does not protect them from the imminent threat of lithium exploitation. The picturesque and the most visited high lagoons, Miscanti and Miñiques, in the Los Flamencos National Reserve have spectacular views of the hills. And in the oasis of Toconao the abundance of water and laborious communities have managed to produce a great variety of fruits and vegetables. Note. The salt flat of Talar and Kapur are located in the highland puna surrounded by the greenery of the ichu straw or straw brava this yellow plant typical of the Altiplano, is the food of the Vicuña, in this part of the Altiplano you can see many animals such as the ñandú the vizcachas, the Andean fox the vicuñas that we find from 3,800 meters of altitude. The salt flat of Talar and Kapur have deep blue turquoise blue green colors due to their different minerals are lithium nature reserve and unique landscapes about to disappear as they are in the sights of most mining companies in the world.

It was really comfortable. Interesting experience. Visiting the Atacama Desert, and its attractions, volcanoes, Geisers. Then the trip to Vi a del March and Valparaiso was amazing. The whole experience would not have been the same without our attentive guides, who were always very attentive and friendly. Sharing your knowledge with us all the time.
