Cerro Castillo National Park in Aisén gives us four days of no equal experience. The Cerro massif imposes its manor on the typically Patagonian surrounding site where we walk between lenga and scrub forests, turquoise lagoons and steppe plains. Climbers will feel the challenge of the Cerro’s wall and needles. Very different is to approach the Northern Ice Field and walk on a glacial tongue detached from it facing perhaps the cold wind of the west. Then, from Villa O’Higgins, a six-day tour leads to the Argentine town of El Chaltén, an adventure tourism center, from which you can only measure strength with the imposing Fitz Roy and the Tower, true strongholds of those counties. We’re on Navarino Island in front of the Beagle Canal. Puerto Williams is a small and orderly village, which immediately shows its backdrop: the Teeth of Navarino, a mountainous massif a thousand meters high that belongs to the Andes Fueguinos, with a line of sharp peaks that have earned it its name. The difficult rock, snow and ice path around it is considered the southernmost hike in the world.
