– Ojos del Salado Volcano
This 6,893-meter volcano is considered the tallest in the world. At its base lie salt flats, lagoons, and abundant biodiversity. Despite its height, this gigantic volcano does not require a great deal of experience to be included in adventure expeditions that are suitable for intermediate climbers. However, one key factor to consider is the low temperatures, which pose a challenge to visitors because they are so unpredictable.
In addition to being a massive volcano with exceptional views, archaeological remains associated with the Inca culture have been found on nearby peaks. As a result, the cultural significance of this quiet yet imposing volcano is also highlighted during a visit.
– Licancabur Volcano
This is one of the most iconic volcanoes in northern Chile. For the indigenous people of San Pedro de Atacama, it is a symbol of reverence and is considered sacred. It has a crater more than 90 meters wide and a summit at an elevation of 5,920 meters.
In the Atacameño language, its name means “mountain of the people,” and it is easily recognizable because a captivating blue-green lake lies within its crater—a lake considered the fifth highest in the world.
– Villarrica Volcano
Also known as “The Giant of Araucanía,” this iconic volcano is famous for its nearly perfect conical shape. About 10,000 tourists a year visit the park that contains the volcano and explore all it has to offer visitors throughout the different seasons.
In winter, it’s common to go skiing with breathtaking views of the town of Pucón, and in summer, hiking and climbing to its 2,847-meter summit are the main activities. The volcano is also covered by a 40-square-kilometer ice cap, which makes the experience truly unforgettable.

– Osorno Villa
With an elevation of 2,652 meters, this beautiful volcano is particularly well known for its striking resemblance to Mount Fuji. It is the gateway to Chilean Patagonia and has been dormant for over a century. According to a legend from Mapuche mythology, this volcano was created after an ancient, powerful spirit was banished and cast down to earth.

– San José Volcano
This volcano is located in the central Andes. It is particularly popular because it lies just 60 km east of the city of Santiago, Chile, and ranges in elevation from 5,856 to 5,820 meters above sea level, making its impressive size visible from several kilometers away.
Its massive size is part of the landscape and blends in with the Volcán River and the other volcanic complexes that make up the area. According to the Southern Andes Volcanological Observatory, San José is a stable volcano that poses no risk to the population.
