The initial formative event of the Lascar (in cunza) occurred 27,000 years ago according to geological records. This volcano has presented more than 30 explosive eruptions in the nineteenth century being the last major eruption that occurred in April 1993, when the wind dragged ash to the coast of Brazil, and then has had repeated activity until 2015. It is the most active in Northern Chile. Ascending it is a unique experience. The approach is short and pleasant, passing through Lejía lagoon surrounded by the volcanoes Pili, Tumisa, Corona and Chilliques, a unique visual panorama. But at the start of the ascent the physical demand is intense because in less than three km you must gain about 600 m in height. At the summit, at 5592 m high, impresses the large crater 300 m deep.
