Follow the Vilama River and then the Puritama up the Guatín ravine is a light and very pleasant walk. The raveb is actually a sometimes narrow rocky canyon where giant cacti and fox tails abound, so some call it the Cactus Valley. In the past it was a path of transhumante shepherds whose traces are still possible to recognize in certain sections. Puritama’s Baths (in kunza “puri” water and hot “tama”) offer what you expect. Hot water at 30ºC sprouts from underground napas and spills in a succession of eight large stepped natural pools where visitors can get relief from various common ailments. The sulphurous content of these waters and their proper temperature have been appreciated since very old by the native peoples who now manage this place as Council of the Atacameño Peoples.
