The highest volcano in the world and the second height of the Andes mountain range are the merits with which the Nevado Ojos del Salado challenges the most daring mountaineers on this 23-day itinerary. But he doesn’t accept improvisations. During the first two weeks it will be necessary to ascend again and again higher summits strengthening us to face the great adversary. The first walk unevenly to La Puerta-Zorrito will then be followed by another to the Vallecito hill and we will already be in the 3700 m high, and then to the hill Siete Hermanos and the hill Santa Rosa, enjoying landscapes that transit from the coast to the inland valleys of the precordillera showing how gradually the vegetation decreases and the air is more diaphanous. Afterwards, the Pastillito hill and the Incahuasi Viewpoint make us gain height because in Laguna Verde we will already be at 4330 meters above sea level. Two more days on the Tres Cruces hill, in the middle of the mountain range, you will find the persevering mountaineer in good physical and mood for the great ascent that comes. After eight hours of walking from the last camp and more than a thousand meters of unevenness the summit is presented. There is no crater due to a long period of inactivity of centuries and instead three rocky turrets rise. Archaeological remains have been found in the Ojos del Salado volcano, as in other summits of Los Andes, affirming the practice of ceremonial Inca rites whose testimonies are now found in Chilean and Argentine museums. We are at 6,893 meters above sea level in the center of a spectacular amphitheatre of high mountains in a remote area, the most desert of los Andes, which from the summit we can appreciate in all its impressive beauty.

It was really comfortable. Interesting experience. Visiting the Atacama Desert, and its attractions, volcanoes, Geisers. Then the trip to Vi a del March and Valparaiso was amazing. The whole experience would not have been the same without our attentive guides, who were always very attentive and friendly. Sharing your knowledge with us all the time.
Magical moments in breathtaking landscapes. Thank you Tolhuin for this organization, for this circuit, for adapting to our expectations and to our level. Very good contact with Alex. A journey I won't forget.
