From the summit of The San Lorenzo Hill in Chile Monte Cochrane, on a clear day you can see Mount Valentine’s Day, in the Campo de Hielo Norte, the Fitz Roy in the Southern Ice Field, the endless Argentine pampas and to the west the rivers, glaciers and mountains of Chile. We’re 3706 meters above sea level. But this ascent is a difficult task because of the chances of the climate and the obstacle of huge glaciers that must be saved, although the slopes have undeniable attractions for skiers. Father Alberto Agostini led the first ascent in 1943 to the unique summit of several ice ridges. Three glaciers fall down its slopes, one of them to Chile. In Aisén, land of pioneers, this secluded mountain of easy approach but difficult ascension is one of the many adventures that can be accepted and enjoyed in a couple of weeks of summer.
